Laapataa Ladies has received a new international title and poster as Aamir and Kiran gear up for the Oscars campaign. The film, which was released earlier this year, has been selected as India’s official submission for the Oscars 2025. To enhance its international appeal, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have decided to rename the film from Laapataa Ladies to Lost Ladies.

Announcing the change through Instagram, Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan unveiled the new title Lost Ladies along with the official poster of Laapataa Ladies. It offers a glimpse into the wild and heartfelt journey of the characters Phool and Jaya. The caption read, “The wait is over! Presenting the official poster for Lost Ladies—a glimpse into the wild, heartfelt journey of Phool and Jaya! Huge shoutout to @jahansinghbakshi and @apertureanecdotes for bringing our story to life with this stunning design. Get ready to be swept away!”
The new poster cleverly encapsulates the film’s essence, with subtle hints at the various twists and turns within the narrative. Recently, a special screening of the film was held by chef Vikas Khanna in New York. On Tuesday, he shared highlights from the event on social media, saying, “Jab dil se Dua atti hai, ‘Jeet lo duniya’. This is exactly what I felt yesterday when we hosted the Oscar Campaigning event for Lost Ladies (formerly Laapataa Ladies) at Bungalow. Kiran, you are a true artist for creating such an iconic film.”
He further praised Aamir Khan, stating, “Aamir Sir, you are the KINDEST. The way you engaged with and showed love and respect towards Mysha meant everything to me. (See pic 2 & 6). Jyoti, your genuine support for South Asian arts is inspiring. Earlier, the Gujarati film Chhello Show was chosen as India’s official entry for Oscars 2023. It was titled Last Film Show in English. Laapataa Ladies had its world premiere at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival in September 2023. It was screened with its English title Lost Ladies.

Directed by Kiran Rao, the Hindi movie was picked to represent India at the Oscars in September. Rao also produced the film via Kindling Pictures with former husband Aamir Khan and his banner AKPPL and Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios. A light-hearted satire on patriarchy, Laapataa Ladies follows the story of two brides called Phool and Jaya in rural India in 2001. They accidentally get swapped during a train journey.
The leads of the film are Nitanshi Goel and Pratibha Ranta. It also stars Sparsh Shrivastav, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma. The movie which was released in Indian theatres in March, opened to positive reviews from critics and audiences.
